"I grew up on bikes, and spent most of my late teens and early twenties riding all over America." Brandon 'Bug' Hall is an American actor known mostly for his work in Hollywood as a child performer. Bug's most notable role as in the hit children's film, The Little Rascals (1994) as the goofy Alfalfa. In the intervening years since Hall's film debut in 1994, Hall has appeared in almost fifty different projects.
Despite breaking into the industry as a child actor, Hall has continued to carve out a career for himself in a number of different facets. Hall has worked as a writer, actor, and singer for a number of different projects. He continues to be active as a performer and Hall currently has two films slated to release by the end of 2020. Those films are This Is the Year as well as The Long Run. Despite peaking as a performer at the age of nine, Hall continues to work his trade in a number of major projects.
Childhood Celebrity
Brandon 'Bug' Hall was born on February 4, 1985, in Fort Worth, Texas. Hall was the second oldest child in his family. He was nicknamed 'Bug' by his parents when he was still just a child. Despite his life in the public spotlight thanks to The Little Rascals, precious little is known of Hall's private upbringing. With that being said, we still know quite a bit about his early life thanks to what he shared during his work on screen.
Hall entered into the acting industry at just nine-years-old after securing the role of Alfalfa in the film The Little Rascals (1994). The film was directed by Penelope Spheeris and it also starred Travis Tedford and Brittany Ashton Holmes. The project would receive mixed reviews with Roger Ebert giving the film a positive thumbs up. The film would gross over $67 million around the world including a cool $10 million in North America during its opening weekend. Hall's work as Alfalfa was at the center of film's surprising success and that didn't go unnoticed by the rest of the industry.
Working After Fame
After breaking into the industry with The Little Rascals, Hall was determined not to slow down. Following that performance, Hall would land a starring role in the comedy, The Stupids (1996) which was directed by the legendary John Landis. The film also starred Tom Arnold and Jessica Lundy. The Stupids revolved around characters pulled from a series of books by Harry Allard. The film was shot in Toronto and it would be released to negative reviews and poor commercial performance. The film would gross $2.5 million on a budget of $25 million. Despite how poorly the film was received, director John Landis still is proud of the film, stating that it was 'meant for ten-year-olds'.
After The Stupids, Hall would have trouble landing major roles. He would appear in several films during the late 90s including Hercules (1997), The Big Green (1995), and Mel (1998). Hall would continue to work until 2000 when he would take a two-year hiatus from the industry. Before taking his hiatus, Hall would score his most recurring work in the television series, Kelly Kelly as Brian Kelly, opposite Robert Hays and Shelley Long.
In the years since Hall made his case for child stardom, Hall has become something of a prolific television actor. Hall has appeared in a number of great shows including Charmed (2004), Cold Case (2005), and The O.C. (2006). While Hall did not retain the same level of fame that he had found as a child, his continued work in the industry was clear proof that he was a talented and hard-working actor.
As an adult performer, Hall would start to branch out from his childish roots. Instead of sticking to family-friendly fare, Hall would begin to book darker projects like Arachnoquake (2012), Atlas Shrugged II: The Strike (2012) and Masters of Sex (2013). Hall would enjoy a brief run on the hit television show, Revolution (2014) before going on to appear in Harley and the Davidsons (2016) as Arthur Davidson. Most recently, Hall appeared in North Blvd and The Shadow People in 2018 and 2017 respectively. He is slated to appear in two developmental projects that have yet to be released. Hall also briefly appeared in the hit crime film, Baby Driver (2017) via his voice, singing the song You Are So Beautiful as performed by Alfalfa in The Little Rascals.
In his private life, Hall would go on to marry Jill de Groff in 2017. Jill and Brandon are both Roman Catholics who take their faith very seriously. They have two children together, a pair of daughters named Therese and Josephina.
