“I'm not a woman. I'm a force of nature.” With her father working as the road manager for the Grateful Dead, Courtney Love was destined for the stage herself after spending her childhood among rockers and musicians. Eventually emancipating herself at the age of 16, Love later worked as a stripper before traveling abroad to Ireland and the United Kingdom. After returning to the States in the early 1980s, she was determined to make it big as a musician and formed a series of bands, none of which found any success.
Loved switched gears and turned her attention to acting after moving to New York City where she landed roles in films like Sid and Nancy and Straight to Hell. Despite her good fortune on the silver screen, however, she couldn’t shake her dreams of becoming a singer and moved back to the West Coast where she taught herself to play guitar and, in 1989, formed the alternative rock band known as Hole.
As Hole released several songs and rose to popularity in the grunge scene, Love’s career was finally looking up as her growing fame led her straight into the arms of Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain. Falling in love and marrying in 1992, the two had a child together before their marriage came to a tragic end when Cobain took his own life in 1994. In the years following, Love focused all her energy on her work as she continued to belt out hits like “Doll Parts” and “Celebrity Skin” while giving award-nominated performances in films like The People vs. Larry Flynt.
Love’s success carried on into the late 1990s but eventually began to fade by the new millennium as she left Hole to launch her solo career in 2004 with the release of America’s Sweetheart. While she continued to appear in films like Man on the Moon and Trapped, Love couldn’t hide the obvious signs of aging and ultimately decided to go under the knife for a facelift. Her reasoning behind her decision was, in true Love style, exceptionally simple and to the point: “I took advice from Goldie Hawn when she said I should get a facelift at 35.”
A few years after her procedure and the big reveal, Love let the world in on yet another secret—that the facelift wasn’t her first procedure. Love claimed that her nose was to blame for losing the starring role in the 1988 film Satisfaction to the young Julia Roberts, the actress’s big debut. “I was an actress in the 80s, but well, let’s just be real, I had a really big nose,” she said. “That schnoz was not taking me anywhere but radio.”
Although the media had nothing nice to say about Love’s recognizable facelift, the San Francisco rocker brushed it off and admitted that her rhinoplasty, not the facelift, was truly what made the difference in her career. “Yeah, I got my nose fixed,” she said. “In six months, the whole world changed. It just happened…I was 20 when I did it.” When asked if she ever regretted changing her look, Love vehemently answered with a huge “hell no.” Come on, did you expect anything else?
Love has only confirmed the rhinoplasty and facelift but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from working overtime with many arguing that she’s had even more work done now that she’s in her 50s. With very few wrinkles to show, it’s a stretch to think Love hasn’t aged after spending the last three decades in the spotlight while battling drug addiction, a tumultuous love life and raising her now 24-year-old daughter, Frances Bean. So what exactly is the media saying the former Mrs. Cobain had done?
Today, lip fillers seem to be all but confirmed for the singer and actress as well as multiple Botox injections. The biggest rumors, of course, claim the Sons of Anarchy actress had breast augmentation in the early 2000s. But, that’s not all! Despite being sober today, Love’s extensive substance abuse did considerable damage to her nasal passage, which led to additional rhinoplasties since her first procedure in the 1980s. Although the surgeries to realign her nasal passage was less cosmetic, it was an absolutely necessity to allow Love to breathe easier once again.
While there is nothing that confirms exactly how many times Love has gone under the knife over the last 30 years, we are certain it’s more than the average celebrity after comparing her look in the 1980s with how she looks today. Regardless, it’s hard to argue that the 52-year-old Love can spend her $150 million fortune however she wants whether it’s on plastic surgery or not. Beyond that, she’s already made history as a rocker and actress with an affinity for confrontational lyrics and bad boys. After all, she married the most controversial bad boy of all, Kurt Cobain.
