"I want to do things that will change someone's life, not something they'll forget about tomorrow." Daveigh Chase understands the value of caring for others, and for making her mark on the world in a way that would reach out to and work for other people. That not only gives other people something to remember her by, but it also helps her feel as though she's given something of value to the entire world. With so much acting talent offered to her fans and the entertainment industry, it's clear that Chase will go far. But where did she get her start, and where's she headed next? Read on to find out more about her life and her acting abilities, along with the kinds of things she cares about and the causes she values.
Growing Up in Nevada and Oregon
While Chase was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, her parents soon divorced and she moved to Albany, Oregon, where she grew up. She started her career with a voice-acting role when Disney cast her as the voice of Lilo in Lilo & Stitch. She won an Annie Award for her performance, and was in the TV series follow-up that was based on the movie. Chase was also the voice of the main character in Spirited Away. Then, in 2002, Chase was in the role of Samara Morgan in The Ring. The MTV Movie Awards voted her Best Villian for that performance. She was in the sequel in 2005, but only through the use of archived footage for which she was credited. She was in several major films from 2000 to 2005.
Those films included Donnie Darko, Oliver Beene, Beethoven's 5th, Haunted House, Carolina, and The Rats. She was on TV during that time, too, with guest spots on Touched by an Angel, Charmed, Family Law, The Practice, and ER, among other shows. In 2006, Chase got a role on Big Love on HBO. She has been in everything from kid's shows to horror movies, playing a wide variety of characters with a lot to offer. Her role on Big Love continued through several seasons, where she plays the child bride of a polygamist who claims he's a prophet. There was also a follow-up to Lilo & Stitch, called Leroy & Stitch, that was released in 2006 with Chase as one of the stars. She moved from Disney to horror films and back fluidly, making it easy for her to enjoy a number of roles and characters.
From Disney to Horror Films
Talking about which movie roles meant the most to her and what she remembers most about the people she's worked with, Chase said, "I loved working on 'Donnie Darko.' I learned a lot from the cast, Jake Gyllenhaal and the producers. I love doing what I do because I get to meet so many great people." She has been in at least one movie nearly every year since she stared working, staying very active as an actress and doing voice-over work, as well. She's also been in a number of TV shows during that time, with several recurring roles and quite a few guest spots. She's also voiced video game characters and been nominated for several acting awards. It's clear that Chase still has a lot to offer to her fans and to the acting world in general.
Donnie Darko is the movie most people remember her from, but it's definitely not the only place she's been seen. As she gets older, she'll be making her mark in a number of other movies and TV shows, too. Fans haven't seen the last of her, based on her enthusiasm and talent. She'll also likely do more voice-over work, due to the success of Lilo & Stitch and other movies where she's provided the voice for a character. Voice actors don't always get the recognition they need because they aren't as easily recognized. Their faces aren't on the screen, so people don't recognize them the way they would with a more traditional actor. But since Chase has done both, she's become popular and gained a fan base.
Where will she go next, and what's she working on now? That remains to be seen, as there's not much but speculation about the things she's been focusing on lately. People are only now starting to see her as grown up, even though she has been for some time, because they associate her with the roles she had when she was younger, such as The Ring. But she's changed, and she'll continue to make her mark in the acting world for the foreseeable future. Fans of Chase should stay tuned to see what kinds of great things she'll be doing next.
