"Family and friends describe me as a 'mother bird', a truth-teller, Bohemian, fiercely loyal, ridiculously hopeful, empathetic, and passionate. "While Dawn Gregg's family may have a lot to say about their talented performer, Gregg has left little behind for the world to see. Most prominent for her work as a child actress in the 80s, Gregg made a name for herself with a string of successful appearances on television. Perhaps most well-known for her work on The Facts of Life in the early 80s, many fans have been wondering what the former child star has been up to.
As is the nature of The Facts of Life, many present and future stars ended up booking roles on the historic program. Despite being one of the actors chosen to work on the series, Gregg would go on to work sparsely throughout the 80s, ultimately booking ten total credits from 1980 to 2016. Fortunately for Gregg fans, it appears that the actress is back in the driver's seat and looking to leave her mark on Hollywood as an adult.
Family of Artists
Dawn Gregg was born on April 3, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York. While there isn't much information pertaining to her childhood, we do know that Dawn is the older sister of Ricky Schroder, a prominent actor, writer, producer, and director. Ricky is a Golden Globe-nominated performer thanks to his work on The Champ in 1979. Schroder would take home the Golden Globe for New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture.
Gregg would make her jump into showbusiness at the age of 23 when she was cast as Dalton in The Earthing. The film centered on Patrick Foley, played by William Holden, as he spends his final days in an isolated part of Australia. The film also starred Ricky Schroder, Gregg's younger brother, as Shawn Daley.
Character Work in Hollywood
When Gregg finally made it to Hollywood as a 23-year-old, she knew that she had some catching up to do. After appearing in The Earthling alongside her younger brother, Gregg would get cast in the television series Silver Spoons (1983) and Jennifer Slept Here (1983). However, her largest role came when she played Jenny in The Facts of Life (1982 – 1985). The character of Jenny wasn't a central character, but she did have multiple appearances with several lines in each appearance. One of her most notable episodes was 'Who's on First' in which Jenny, Natalie, and Tootie all fight over the same boy that they have ac rush on. Following that episode, Jenny would appear in one other episode, 'Gone With the Wind' in 1985. After that final appearance, Gregg's character would be retired from the program.
Following her success on The Facts of Life, Gregg would go on to appear in one more project before temporarily retiring from Hollywood. That project, Night of the Creeps, would release in 1986. Night of the Creeps was a cult-classic horror film that was about brain-eating alien parasites that turned their hosts into vicious zombies. The film also starred Jason Lively, Steve Marshall, and Jill Whitlow.
It was after her appearance in Night of the Creeps that Gregg realized that she didn't want to act anymore. Instead, Gregg decided to attend the University of Southern California in order to pursue a degree in film writing. While at school she would meet Bradley Gregg. The two would later get married and have five children together, including actors Mcabe Gregg and Braverijah Gregg. Braverijah is a professional production assistant with several notable credits to his name, including My Fighting Season and Everything's Eventual. Mcabe appears to be the most successful of the Gregg-family actors as he has appeared in 17 projects including Age of Summer (2018), Ray Donovan (2013), and Shameless (2016). Husband Bradley Gregg has been working in the film industry since 1984, and he has several notable credits to his name including Stand by Me (1986), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1987), and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).
After taking a prolonged break from Hollywood, the Greggs would decide to make their return to the industry in 2012. Dawn would lead the way with a string of short films including Remnant (2012), Audience of One (2014), and That Mother****** (2016). Gregg wrote, directed, and produced two out of those three projects. According to Gregg, her focus is more on arthouse films than working toward larger blockbuster projects. Gregg also runs a website as well as several social media platforms in order to stay in touch with her fans. Dawn is continually focused on writing, editing, and producing new projects under her own production house.
