Demetria Guynes was born in Roswell, New Mexico on November 11, 1962. She never got to know her biological father who abandoned her mother before she was born. She had a tough childhood as she was both cross-eyed and had chronic kidney dysfunction. For years, she underwent corrective surgeries and had to wear an eyepatch.

Her stepfather changed jobs often, which caused the family to relocate frequently. Demi had moved more than thirty times before she reached adolescence. During her early teen years, Moore’s parents became increasingly dependent on alcohol, which led to increasing violence and turmoil in her home life. She and her two stepbrothers were affected deeply.

During the late 70s, Demi enrolled at Fairfax High School in LA, California. Other future celebrities also attended Fairfax, including actor Timothy Hutton and members of the iconic rock group, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Demi dropped out of high school at age 16 to pursue her dream of becoming a Hollywood actress. And that, she definitely accomplished!

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Within 2 years of dropping out of Fairfax High School, Demetria Guynes married Freddy Moore, becoming Demi Moore, the name she continues using today. Freddy was an American rock musician and twelve years older than her. She began modeling during her marriage to Freddy, which earned her enough money and exposure to make her film debut in Parasite, 3D movie released in 1982.

After Parasite, Demi gained a lot more exposure playing Jackie Templeton during her stint on the soap opera, General Hospital. Over the next few years, Moore starred in various films that targeted younger audiences, including Blame It On Rio (1984) and No Small Affair (1984).

Moore’s fame greatly increased as a member of the “Brat Pack”, a nickname given to her and several other actors who co-starred in coming-of-age films like St Elmo’s Fire (1985) and The Breakfast Club (1985). Other Brat Pack members were Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, and Andrew McCarthy.

Demi Moore and Bruce Willis

Unfortunately, Demi’s marriage to Freddy deteriorated after just 4 years in 1985. She retained her surname: Moore. She dated actor Emilio Estevez for a short time before getting married again on November 21, 1987, this time to actor Bruce Willis. The two had three daughters together over the next 3 years: Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah.

During this time, Moore and Willis joined financial forces with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger to launch the now-iconic Planet Hollywood. And in 1992, she recaptured her A-List status for her role opposite Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men.

Moore followed up the next year by playing a married woman who was offered a million dollars to sleep with a stranger in Indecent Proposal, which co-starred Robert Redford and Woody Harrelson. Then, in 1994, she sexually harassed Michael Douglas in the erotic thriller Disclosure. And in 1996, Demi earned $10 million for voicing a character in the animated film The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

By 1995, Moore was the highest-paid actress in the world. She retained her popularity through several more films including The Scarlet Letter (1995), Now and Then (1995), Striptease (1995), and The Juror (1996). And in 1997, she shaved her head to star in GI Jane.

Life would change yet again when, after more than 12 years of marriage, Willis and Moore were divorced on October 18, 2000. Moore then moved to Idaho and dedicated the next 3 years to raising her daughters without making any new movies. She returned to acting in 2003, playing the villain role in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, which co-starred Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore, and Cameron Diaz.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher

In 2005, after dating for two years, Demi Moore married Ashton Kutcher who was 15 years her junior. She eventually changed her legal name to Kutcher but retained her professional moniker. She has since begun taking on lower-profile roles, like her role as an aging alcoholic singer in Emilio Estevez’s Bobby (2006).

She followed that role by playing a tormented novelist in Half-Life, a horror/drama that also starred Hans Matheson. In 2007, Moore played a determined police officer opposite Kevin Costner in Mr. Brooks. Then, in 2008 she acted alongside Michael Cane in a British crime drama called Flawless.

In 2012, Moore acted with Miley Cyrus in a limited release film called LOL, which was only marginally successful. Then, she played another mother role in Very Good Girls (2013), a coming-of-age film that also starred Elizabeth Olsen and Dakota Fanning.

Regrettably, in 2013, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher were divorced after 8 years of marriage (two of which were spent separated). She stated, “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.”

Present and Future

In 2015, Moore starred with Donald and Keifer Sutherland in a quick-draw western called Forsaken. She followed that role by playing along with Jessica Lange and Shirley MacLaine in Wild Oats (2016). Her next role was as a neglected wife named Susan Dutchman in 2016’s Blind, which co-starred Alec Baldwin. Then, in 2017, Demi starred in a black comedy called Rough Night, which has grossed more than $47 million worldwide to date.

In February 2017, Moore joined the cast of the musical drama television series: Empire. Later that year, she appeared on Bruce Willis’s episode of The Comedy Central Roast. Moore also provided the voice for The General, an animated comedy series called Animals. Most recently, Demi Moore is slated to play a recurring role as Linda in an upcoming series called Brave New World.

Concerning her frequent activities on Twitter, Moore says, “I like to connect to people in the virtual world, exchanging thoughts and ideas, when in the physical world we might never have the opportunity to cross paths.”

Today, Demi Moore continues acting and is also well known for her work as a human rights activist against the child sex trade. She has penned a memoir called Inside Out that will be released on September 24, 2019. Moore says, “Time is an amazing equalizer. I think if you stay true to yourself and keep moving forward, things come around.”
