“Gia had a blast! Honored to be a part of such a wonderful show and team!” Mario Lopez tweeted in 2016, after Gia's first day of her first voice acting job. She was just five years old at the time. How did she get there? Having famous parents helped! Dad Mario Lopez, or "Coach Dad," as he's known, has been a celebrity for a long time. He's been on Dancing With the Stars, and has hosted X Factor and other shows. His most memorable role probably came on the TV show Saved by the Bell, where he played A.C. Slater for teen audiences. But he concedes that nothing beats the joy of having Gia in his life.

Gia's first voice acting job was for the Disney Channel, voicing Estrella for an animated series called Elena of Avalor. Relying on her dad to show her how things were done, Gia was able to do a great job with the half-jaguar, half-bird character. Growing up in Los Angeles can be an exciting experience, and when you add famous parents and voice acting to the mix it only gets better. Growing Up With Famous Parents

Mario Lopez met Gia's mother Courtney Mazzo during a Broadway production of A Chorus Line in 2008. He had just ended a two-year relationship with his Dancing With the Stars partner Karina Smirnoff. Slowly, on the stage and off, Mario and Courtney fell in love. Two years later, they welcomed Gia Francesca into the world. In January of 2012, the couple announced that they were engaged. They married on December first of that year. In September of 2013, Gia's younger brother Dominic joined the family. They documented their wedding on Mario & Courtney’s Wedding Fiesta, and introduced Dominic on an Extra Segment.

Mario has hosted Extra since 2008. Early on in his career he was branded with the "teen heartthrob" label, and worked hard to shake that. The new millenium saw Mario work very hard to rebrand himself as someone with a true career and the skills and talent to back it up. He decided that a television personality was where he was most comfortable, and started hosting America's Best Dance Crew, Extra, and X Factor. During that same time he was on Broadway, where he ultimately met Courtney. The people going to Broadway shows didn't associate Mario with his 1980s teen shows, so they regarded him differently.

In 2011, Mario published Mario and Baby Gia, his first children's book, as a celebration of the birth of his daughter. Now that Gia is growing up and Dominic is, as well, Mario is still a happy man with a happy life and the joys that fatherhood brings. Gia is starting to do more acting, and father and daugher dressed up for a school dance in 2017, as well. As Gia grows, it's clear that her father and mother will be there to guide her in her acting career and help her make the right choices for the parts she wants to take and will really enjoy.

Gia's Already Becoming a Star

Since her role in Elena of Avalor, Gia will likely do more voice acting. She has also had small roles in Walk the Prank (2016), Jane the Virgin (2012), and Disappointment (2014). There's no way to tell how famous Gia will get, or what kinds of great roles she might take on in the future. According to her dad she's very girly like her mother, but she's also rowdier than her brother. That's a great combination that could work in her favor to make her a Hollywood star. “I think a father-and-daughter dynamic is incredibly important,” Mario says, and he wants to raise Gia to understand how a lady should be treated.

With a focus on helping her grow up happy and also letting her explore the world in and out of Hollywood, Mario and Courtney will help Gia be the person she wants to be and enjoy any career that she chooses for herself. Her voice acting talents and other abilities can take her a long way, and with "Coach Dad" by her side it will be hard for her to go wrong. Gia has been to film premieres with her famous father, too, including Emma Watson’s Beauty and the Beast. That's a great way for Gia to see the excitement of Hollywood and all she could have there, along with enjoying the closeness of family life.
