"The most important thing to me is my privacy." With such an abrupt quote, you won't be surprised to know that Jacqueline Frances Stallone has done everything in her power to retain her privacy, despite her high level of fame. Stallone is most well-known for her work with the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling back in the 1980s. During her time at GLOW, Stallone was a prolific promoter for women's wrestling as well as a full-on entertainer.
Throughout Stallone's life, she has done several different things to keep all eyes on her. During the height of her career, Stallone was known as much for her astrology books and psychic hotline as she was for her time on television. Of course, we'd be remiss if we did not note that Jackie Stallone is also the mother of Frank and Sylvester Stallone, as well as Toni D'Alto, an actress. While Stallone has kept her life out of the spotlight, we'll still take a deep dive into what there is to know about her!
Born in Washington
Jacqueline Frances Laboflish was born on November 29, 1921, in Washington, D.C. Stallone was born to John Paul Labofish and Jeanne Victoria Anne 'Adrienne' Clerec. Her father, John, worked in Washington as a prominent lawyer before his passing in 1956. Her mother, Jeanne, was originally from Brittany in France. Her parents had met while her father was serving overseas in the United States Navy, shortly after the World War I. Stallone's grandparents were Rose and Charles Labofisz, they were both Jewish immigrants who came to America from Ukraine.
During her childhood, the Stallone family would live with Charles Atlas, a famous bodybuilder. Atlas would go on to train her entire family in weight lifting, jogging, and gymnastics. Thanks to her early relationship with Atlas, Stallone would earn the first daily television show in Washington D.C. that featured a woman weight lifting and exercising. Before Stallone began working on television, she spent time working in a circus as a trapeze artist as well as a chorus girl in a local nightclub. Stallone also spent time working as a hairdresser.
Reluctantly Enjoying Fame
Jackie Stallone had about as interesting a childhood as would be possible. She spent time working in the circus as a high-flying trapeze artist before going on to open a gym solely for women. That gym would be named Barbella's and it would be considered a huge progressive step for the era. Despite the fame of her children, Sylvester and Frank, Stallone would continue to live outside of the public spotlight, much by her own design. With that being said, Stallone has done quite a few things throughout her career that merit mentioning.
At the top of Stallone's resume is her work with GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling in the 1980s. GLOW was a huge moment for women's athletics as it sought to put women on the same playing field as male wrestlers. The innovative organization would spawn off the Netflix Original Series of the same name, starring Marc Maron and Alison Brie. During her time with GLOW, Stallone worked as a tireless performer. She would rap, sing, and dance to the crowd with the backing of Susie Spirit, Mt. Fiji, and Americana.
While Stallone made a difference with her work on GLOW, she was always more famous for her time spent in the field of astrology. By the time that Sylvester Stallone was famous for making the Rocky films, Jackie Stallone was an established publisher of astrology books. Stallone would go on to set up her own psychic hotline whereupon she would charge callers for advice. Stallone would hire operators to help man the lines, and they would also give advice for a fee. Stallone's largest impact on this field of pseudoscience would revolve around her invention of rumpology. The tongue-in-cheek ability is similar to palm reading, except that Stallone would analyze the person's rear end rather than their palm. Stallone also famously stated that she could talk to dogs about the future.
Stallone would appear on The Howard Stern Show in 1992. The reason that this appearance was notable was due to the fact that she got into a heated argument with her ex, Frank Stallone Sr. The two had it out on-air and both parties would end up talking about some seriously dirty laundry. The interview would go on to become a milestone for The Howard Stern Show as it showcased just how intense his program could get. In 2005, Stallone would appear on Celebrity Big Brother as a surprise contestant. She was added to the house in order to cause drama with her former daughter-in-law, Brigitte Nielsen. Stallone would be the first person voted out of the house. She would also appear on Through the Keyhole in 2007 as she showed host Stefanie Powers her elaborate home in Los Angeles.
