"The ultimate dream in life is to be able to do what you love and learn something from it." Jennifer Love Hewitt is a famous actress, singer, and producer. Hewitt started her career as a child actress before transitioning into one of the most notable names of the late '90s and early '00s. Now firmly entrenched in her role as a television performer, Hewitt has continued to enjoy high levels of success.
When she isn't performing on screen, Hewitt is immersed in the world of music. She released her first studio album at the age of 12 before signing to Atlantic Records. Hewitt has found herself in a world of other mediums, including producing, directing, and even modeling. According to TV Guide, Hewitt was one of the most attractive women on television in 2008.
Makings of a Superstar
Jennifer Love Hewitt was born February 21, 1979, in Waco, Texas. Hewitt's parents were Patricia Mae and Herbert Daniel Hewitt. Herbert worked as a medical technician while Patricia worked as a speech-language pathologist. While Hewitt was born in Waco, she and her family actually grew up in Central Texas, near the city of Nolanville. Hewitt has one brother, Todd.
After Hewitt's parents were divorced, she would go on to live with her mother and older brother. In her youth, Hewitt loved music and would perform as much as possible. Hewitt made her debut live performance at a livestock show where she sang, 'The Greatest Love of All' at just three-years-old. Hewitt would also fall in love with ballet and tap dancing when she joined the Texas Show Team. The Texas Show Team would tour throughout the world, including the Soviet Union.
When she was just ten-years-old, Hewitt's mother would be advised by talent scouts to move to Los Angeles in order to pursue a career in acting and music. Once she settled down in Los Angeles, Hewitt would attend Lincoln High School.
Becoming A 90s Icon
After making the move to Los Angeles, Hewitt was quick to establish herself as a performer. She quickly began to book commercial gigs for a variety of different companies, including Mattel. Before long, Hewitt was making her break on television with a recurring role on the Disney Channel show, Kids Incorporated (1989). Hewitt would make her non-Disney debut in the pilot episode of Running Wilde (1992) alongside Pierce Brosnan. The series, unfortunately, would end up getting past over. Still, Hewitt kept busy with appearances in Little Miss Millions (1993) and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993). Eventually, Hewitt would find mainstream success with a recurring role in the Fox drama, Party of Five (1994). Hewitt would appear in 100 episodes throughout her run on the program en route to landing a Golden Globe Award in 1996.
Jeniffer would find her mainstream breakthrough in the horror film, I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). Hewitt would play the leading role in the film which has since gone on to become a cult classic. Hewitt would reprise her role in the sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1999). Both films would enjoy modest critical and commercial success. As a result of these two projects, Hewitt would become a household name in the 90s and early 00s.
Turning away from her scream queen roots, Hewitt would star in one of the top rom-coms of the 90s, Can't Hardly Wait (1998). The hit comedy would also star Ethan Embry, Peter Facinelli, and Seth Green. The film followed a group of high schoolers as they celebrate the final party of their school career.
After Hewitt left Party of Five in 2000, she attempted to star in the spin-off series, Time of Your Life (1999). The series ended up bombing halfway through its first season, which led Hewitt to pursue roles that were far outside of her established niche as a teen star. Hewitt would work on films like The Audrey Hepburn Story (2000), Heartbreakers (2001), and The Tuxedo (2002). Despite her attempts to break free of her typecast, Hewitt continued to struggle to find similar mainstream success.
Hewitt has since been in a string of mediocre films, with Garfield (2004), Garfield 2 (2006), and The Client List (2010) among the highlights. Hewitt did enjoy a return to television when she landed the lead role of Melinda Gordon in Ghost Whisperer. Hewitt would play the role for five years, racking up 107 episodic appearances. From there, she would land a starring role in The Client List (2012), Criminal Minds (2014), and 9-1-1 (2018). Hewitt's late success as an established television actor has helped to breathe new life into her career.
Throughout her career as an actress, Hewitt has also pursued work in music. After joining Party of Five, she would sign with Atlantic Records in order to release her second and third records. Let's Go Bang (1995) and Jeniffer Love Hewitt (1996) would both be released without finding success and Hewitt would be dropped from her record label. She released a fourth album with Jive Records titled BareNaked (2002). The album would feature a single of the same name that would go on to chart at #31 on the US Adult Top 40. Hewitt has not released any new music since.
Hewitt has also enjoyed modest success as a writer. She released Jennifer Love Hewitt's Music Box in 2009 before releasing The Day I Shot Cupid in 2010. Her second book is focused on what she has experienced in the world of dating and the realm of love. The book would become a New York Times Bestseller upon release. Hewitt is currently working on a follow-up, though no definitive announcements have been made.
Jennifer Love Hewitt started dating Brian Hallisay in 2012 after the two had starred in The Client List. In 2013, Hewitt and Hallisay had gotten married and their daughter was born shortly thereafter. In 2015, Hewitt gave birth to their second child.
