“I feel, and always have, that I'm a spirit having human experiences. I do not confuse the two — that I'm human having spiritual experiences.” (from Lives Charmed, 1988). The idea of a spiritual side appeals to many people, and Smith isn't alone in her goal or desire to have experiences related to the more spiritual aspect of life. But she's also very focused on a lot of the human things that take place around her, as well. She's a journalist, and the wife of actor Pierce Brosnan since 2001. Smith has also worked as a glamour model, an actress, and a television host/correspondent, as well as an author.

Smith was born in Vallejo, California, and has been active in the media and television industry since 1986 when she appeared in a music video. After her time on General Hospital in 1990, she worked as an environmental correspondent on The Home Show on ABC for six years. In 1991, Smith won a Special Achievement Award at the Environmental Film Festival. She also won two Genesis Awards during her time with ABC. She was nominated for an award from the Environmental Media Association (EMA), as well.

Smith's ongoing focus on the environment was a large part of her original career, and she received praise for those efforts from Organic Style Magazine, Malibu Times, Women in Film, Earth Communications Office, the EMA, Senator Barbara Boxer, and the Natural Resources Defense Council. From 1994 to 1997, Smith also served as a correspondent on Unsolved Mysteries, where she updated stories from the show's telecenter. From there, she worked on Mike and Maty, Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight, and NBC's Today Show.

Personal Life and Activism

Los Angeles Confidential magazine has published six of Smith's articles, and she created and hosted a PBS show for eco-friendly home and garden ideas called Home Green Home. She has worked as a TV producer, and her interest in the environment has led her into higher levels of activism as her career has matured. She worked to stop a salt factory from being constructed in Mexico from 1995 to 2000, with her future husband Pierce Brosnan. Smith has also focused on classroom education for K-12 when it comes to the value of the environment and why conservation is necessary.

A natural gas facility that was being proposed off the coast of Malibu and Oxnard was also successfully defeated in 2007, thanks to Smith and her husband. That same year, the couple donated $100,000 to rebuild a playground in Kauai, and they visited the White House in 2009 to work toward closing loopholes in the whaling industry that were both scientific and commercial in nature. Both Smith and Brosnan testified to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2009 regarding the Climate Change Bill, and Brosnan directed 2018's documentary film Poisoning Paradise about Kauai's toxic environment for agriculture.

Smith met Brosnan in 1994, but the couple didn't marry until 2001 in Ireland. They have two sons, Dylan and Paris, born in 1997 and 2001. It's clear that Smith and Brosnan are more than a power couple, as they're very committed to the environment and the protection of the planet. While Smith may have started her career in television and music videos, she quickly found that working as a correspondent and TV host made it easier for her to address the environmental issues that had become a big concern for her.

In Brosnan, she found a kindred spirit who also understood the value of environmental protection, and who wanted to work with her on the activism she found important. That led them to a friendship and then to a relationship that has stood the test of time. Smith is very committed to improving the planet for her family and the rest of society, and she doesn't focus only on the area of the world in which she lives. She sees that there are environmental problems all over the planet, and by focusing on the issues that are being faced by others she can do her part to improve things for everyone. We haven't seen the last of her efforts.
