“When my kids are happy, I am happy.” A seemingly unknown name in the 1970s when she married Robert Kardashian in 1978, Kris Houghton Kardashian Jenner jumped feet first into raising a family as she gave birth to Kourtney in 1979, to Kim in 1980, to Khloe in 1984 and to Rob in 1987. Despite living a lavish lifestyle, however, Kris was unhappy with her marriage and divorced Kardashian in 1991 just as he took the spotlight during the O.J. Simpson trial. By then, Kris had already moved on and married her second husband, former Olympian Bruce Jenner, just one month after her divorce.
Remaining friends with Kardashian until his death in 2003 from esophageal cancer, Kris extended her family with Jenner by welcoming two daughters—Kendall in 1995 and Kylie in 1997. A decade later, Kris was prepared to turn her family’s world upside down when she approached Ryan Seacrest about a reality television show. In 2007, she and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan debuted on Keeping Up with the Kardashians with Kris in the executive producer’s chair. Today, the family matriarch leaves no question as to who’s in charge as a popular television personality and best-selling author who is known for her love of all things glamorous including plastic surgery.
Using her memoir—Kris Jenner… and All Things Kardashian—to dish the details of her life and her time under the knife, Kris hasn’t hidden her obsession with her looks or her love of cosmetic surgery. In fact, her honesty is like a breath of fresh air in Hollywood because she’s brutal and bold when it comes to maintaining her look. Before Kim’s wedding to Kris Humphries in 2011, Kris wanted to look her best and opted for a facelift beforehand. As if to prove her obsession, she showed the procedure on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians where she happily explained, “I needed a little freshening up for the wedding. Just doing what a girl’s gotta do.”
Despite her honesty, Kris doesn’t go into the procedures without some worry. Before her facelift, she said, “I’ve never had such a stressful morning, honestly, in my entire life. I’m scared.” In the end, it wasn’t a massive overhaul but a subtle facelift that drew dozens of compliments rather than a massive backlash. Even Kris’ family loved it as her young daughter, Khloe, said, “Mom you look so fab. It looks gorgeous!”
Although Kris and her family were thrilled with the results, not everyone had nice things to say. At the time, Kris was a spokeswoman for B&P’s Frownies brand wrinkle treatment. After the facelift, the company sued the matriarch claiming that “she destroyed her ability to align with Frownies and destroyed all endorsement credibility that she had for natural, non-surgical skin care products.” Did B&P even realize that Kris keeps her surgeon on speed dial?
In response, Kris countersued and claimed that the facelift was to remove the wrinkles on her neck rather than anything around her eyes like the product advertised. The lawsuit has not been in the headlines since 2012, which leads many to believe that it’s been settled out of court. However, some damage was already done as people continue to suggest that the 61-year-old reality television star has opted for more than just a minor facelift in recent years.
“I suspect she’s undergone Botox injections to smooth her forehead and crow’s feet, also resulting in her arched brows,” reported renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn. “Her face looks very smooth and plumped up, especially for a woman of her age,” he added. Amid other rumors, he argues that Kris has likely opted for a series of chemical peels and laser treatments as well.
Tired of the rumors, Kris met her critics head on and confirmed that her history with plastic surgery started decades ago. “I had a boob job in the 1980s after having four kids because gravity took over,” she said. “It was great for about 25 years or 30, whatever it was and then a couple of years ago, I felt like they were too big and I felt matronly and nothing fit anymore and suddenly it was like, ‘get them out!” She also confessed to jumping on the Botox bandwagon, which isn’t a surprise considering her status in Hollywood.
Although she’s one of the most forthcoming celebrities when it comes to her looks, Kris adamantly denies ever having a rhinoplasty. “I did get a lot of people saying I had my nose done…I have the same nose I was born with,” she said. “They say that about all my kids. We haven’t had our noses done.” As open as she’s been, we’re inclined to believe Jenner when it comes to a rhinoplasty. Whatever the case, nothing seems to tarnish her reputation or her career as the 61-year-old has proven that she can and will have it all.
