“Let’s dance boys. Let’s dance tonight and keep this party going till the night is over…” In the world of music, there are fewer names that have resonated with people more in the last four decades than the legendary Jacksons of Gary, Indiana. With the young Jackson 5—Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael—making a name for themselves with hits like “ABC” and “Dancing Machine,” the brothers paved the way for their sisters—Janet and La Toya—to find stardom as well. While Janet is undeniably the more popular of the two, La Toya didn’t have any trouble finding the spotlight and has enjoyed plenty of success on her own since the early 1980s.

The fifth of 10 children, La Toya often joined her brothers on The Jacksons but dreamed of putting show business behind her to become a lawyer; however, her father had other plans in mind. After a brief time in college, the Jackson patriarch insisted his daughter follow the rest of the family into show business and encouraged her to pursue a career on stage. By the age of 24, she launched her solo career with songs like “If You Feel the Funk” and “Night Time Lover” before finding mainstream success with hits “Heart Don’t Lie” and “You’re Gonna Get Rocked.”

Reinventing herself over the next decade and breaking ties with the Jackson family after taking on new management, La Toya became an international sex symbol and sealed her fate as a star after posing topless for Playboy magazine in 1989. However, her stardom wouldn’t last after a forced marriage and rumors of brainwashing led the once beloved singer to fall quickly out of grace in Hollywood. Luckily, after escaping years of abuse and estrangement, La Toya returned to her roots and made amends with her family shortly before returning to the music scene with hits like “Just Wanna Dance.” She even made her way to television in 2013 on her own reality series, Life with La Toya.

Although La Toya’s success and relationship with her family has ebbed and flowed over the years, one thing will never change—she’ll always be a Jackson. And, as the world knows, it’s not only music that’s synonymous with the Jackson clan as plastic surgery is also a family favorite especially when it comes to Michael, Janet and, you guessed it, even La Toya.

Despite being openly critical of Michael for undergoing hundreds of procedures throughout his lifetime to perfect his appearance, La Toya denies going under the knife herself but many argue that the 60-year-old looks drastically different than when she first took the stage in the 1980s. For starters, she has the same lighter skin that the King of Pop had toward the end of his career, which was brought on after decades of using Porcelana cream to lighten his complexion. Rumor has it that La Toya has been using the same cream for decades as well.

Beyond her obviously lighter skin, La Toya’s nose has undergone a dramatic transformation leaving many fans to criticize her changing look and desperate need for perfection exactly like her brother. With the so-called improvements failing to rekindle her music career and celebrity status, tabloids have said plenty in recent years about her obsession with headlines reading, “La Toya’s nose has collapsed, just like her brother’s [nose] did” and “La Toya is in denial over how she’s butchered her once beautiful face and body.” One website even described the singer as the celebrity version of ET from E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. Ouch!

Some physicians and psychologists theorize that Jackson’s changing appearance is an emotional issue for her, much like Michael’s need to constantly alter his look to avoid any resemblance to his father. Whatever the case, her obsession with her appearance is glaringly obvious especially after she had her manager add a clause to her contract on Celebrity Big Brother that she was not to be shown on television without makeup. “La Toya is clearly very conscious of her appearance,” one source remarked, “but producers couldn’t accommodate the request as it was a bit unfair to the other contestants to say the least.” Since they couldn’t promise they wouldn’t film her without makeup, they gave her the best room in the house to make up for it.

From her constant denials, a whirlwind of rumors and the King of Pop’s own obsession with plastic surgery, we may never know exactly how many times La Toya has gone under the knife but it’s clear that her nose didn’t change on its own overnight. Perhaps one day the 60-year-old singer will finally come clean but, until then, her fans can’t help but question her sanity. “Another on the list of women that used to be lovely, but decided to ruin their face with surgery. Such a shame,” one fan remarked. Such a shame, indeed!
