“Lou Sulola Samuel was born, and from the moment she looked into both of our eyes, it was endless love at first sight. She is beautiful beyond words, and we are happy that she chose us to watch her grow over the coming years,” said Lou Sulola Samuel’s father, British singer-songwriter Seal, upon her birth in 2009. And while he and Lou Sulola’s mother, German supermodel and television personality Heidi Klum, divorced five years later, the two remain a dedicated unit when it comes to raising Lou and her celebrity siblings.
Few kids can lay claim to having one famous parent, let alone two. But this is Lou Sulola Samuel's ordinary. Even Lou Sulola herself has spent some time in the spotlight thanks to plenty of appearances in the media and on her parents’ social media accounts. Here’s a closer look at what we know about the adorable offspring of Klum and Seal.
Completing a Family
Heidi Klum and Seal were one of Hollywood’s most famous couples for more than a decade. The German-born model and television personality lays claim to a net worth of $90 million thanks to everything from appearances on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue to hosting and judging on the hit reality television show, Project Runway. She’s also a producer with credits including Project Runway: All-Star Challenge, Models of the Runway, Seriously Funny Kids, After the Runway, and Project Runway, and has also raked in money from product endorsements such as McDonald’s, Volkswagen, Dannon and H&M.
While Seal’s net worth may trail behind that of his ex-wife, the British singer-songwriter’s $30 million net worth is nothing to scoff at. Born Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel, his hits have included “Crazy,” “Future Love Paradise,” and “Kiss From a Rose,” which received a Grammy award for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1996.
Seal and Klum met in a New York City hotel lobby, and Klum later described the moment as “kind of like two magnets.” While Seal didn’t even recognize the internationally famous model at first, they went on to fall in love, marry and build a family together. Klum told Piers Morgan of why their relationship worked, “I just think because we love each other. We have fun with each other. We respect each other. I let him do his thing, even though that’s hard for me sometimes.”
In addition to Klum's daughter from a prior relationship, she and Seal have three children together, including their last, Lou Sulola Samuel. Raves Klum of Seal’s approach to fatherhood, “When I first met Seal he had a kindness and compassion that was so sincere I knew he’d be a good father...He has infinite amounts of love and patients for our kids...He puts me and the children first.”
Meanwhile, Seal has said of the addition of Lou Sulola to their family, “It’s difficult to imagine loving another child as much as you love your existing children. Anyone who has a family will tell you this. Where will one find that extra love? If you love your existing children with all of your heart, how then can one possibly find more heart with which to love another.”
Lou Sulola’s birth was also bittersweet because Klum and Seal knew she’d be their last. Wondering about the origins of Lou’s different name, meanwhile? Lou derives from French, and means “a famous warrior,” while Sulola is an African baby name that reflects Seal’s Nigerian heritage.
Growing Up in the Spotlight
Given Lou Sulola’s famous parentage, it begs the question: Will Lou Sulola become a celebrity in her own right? Says Klum of her attitude toward raising her children, “I don’t want to push them towards anything. I want them to do what they want to do, so I’m going to just see what their interests are. They play football and do gymnastics and they are about to start with piano again. They have hobbies, but I want them to have a normal childhood.”
Still, the concept of a “normal childhood” is relative when your parents are as famous as Klum and Seal. Lou Sulola has been spotted out and about the streets of Los Angeles with her mom on numerous occasions doing everything from stopping at the local coffee shop to picking pumpkins together during the Halloween season. Most recently, she and her model mom were photographed laughing together while running in the rain. But Lou Sulola was also garnering media attention before she was even born. Closer Weekly recently included Klum’s on their list of the 10 best red-carpet baby bumps at the Met Gala over the years. In Klum’s tummy at the time? Lou Sulola.
While Lou Sulola looks like the perfect combination of her mom and dad, she appears to take after Heidi in another aspect: fashion sense. She’s often seen wearing cute and trendy clothes, and loves trying on Klum’s high heels. “My girls are drooling over my shoes,” reveals Klum. “They’re waiting, and they’re worried that they’re not gonna have my shoe size. I have an 11 shoe, so they have to grow into it! If they’re not that size, then they’re s*** out of luck!,” she jokes.
And despite the breakup of their parents’ marriage, it appears that the Samuel kids will want for nothing in their lives. In fact, Lou Sulola’s older brother Johan once landed a spot on a roundup of the most extravagant celebrity kids’ birthday parties alongside the likes of Suri Cruise, Apple Martin, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, Cruz Beckham, and Lily-Rose Depp.
And then there's the fact that Lou Sulola will always hold a special place in her parents’ hearts. Says Seal, “Lou turned up and the first time I held her she looked up at me with this frown, which she’s definitely got from me, and I fell in love at that point...It was really emotional this time because we knew this was the last time.”
