Makings of a Superstar

Before Marcus Jordan was even a thought in his father's mind, Michael Jordan was tearing up hardwood floors around the world. Michael Jeffery Jordan is one of the most prominent athletes and crossover stars to ever exist. Michael Jordan's legacy with a Chicago Bulls jersey was only slightly more impressive than what he accomplished off of the court. To say that Marcus Jordan had a lot to live up to would be woefully understating the situation.  Having said that, Marcus has done everything in his power in order to embrace his dad's legacy while extending himself beyond his father's shadow.

Marcus Jordan was born on Christmas Eve, 1990 in Chicago, IL.  While the Jordan family basically represents the city of Chicago, Marcus actually spent the bulk of his childhood in Wilmington, NC.  Marcus was the fourth of Michael Jordan's five children and from an early age, he was desperate to make himself stand out. The chip on his shoulder was as much an indication of his upbringing as his own last name, as Michael Jordan was famous for his personal drive.

From a young age, it was clear that Marcus had a career as an athlete ahead of him. Initially told that he was too short to compete on his high school basketball team, Marcus would spend hours every day honing his craft in order to prove his doubters wrong.  While Marcus never attained elite height, he was still able to take over the Loyola Academy basketball team in Wilmette, IL, alongside his brother, Jeffrey Jordan. This was only the beginning of Marcus Jordan's journey and what was to come was completely unexpected.

Basketball Star to Star Entrepreneur

After winning the confidence of his high school coaching staff, Marcus Jordan would immediately begin to turn heads at Loyola Academy. Jordan would lead Loyola Academy to a pair of conference championships while leading the team to a pair of the best seasons in school history. After Jordan's sophomore year he would go on to transfer to Whitney Young High School in order to compete in his junior and senior years.

Once on the Whitney Young roster, Jordan would take his game to the next level. Jordan would be instrumental in leading the Whitney Young Dolphins to their Illinois State 4A Championship during his junior season. Jordan would be particularly vital in the title game as he exploded for 19 points, thus securing a narrow win over Waukegan. In Jordan's senior year on the squad, he was ranked as the 60th best shooting guard in the entire country. Jordan averaged 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists per game before graduating.

Despite playing in a relatively small conference, Jordan was still able to get the attention of the University of Central Florida. Jordan agreed to attend the college in order to pursue his passion for playing basketball. At the time, UCF was partnered with Adidas, but Jordan was assured that he would be allowed to wear his father's Nike shoes during games. Despite a verbal promise, Adidas backed out of their end of the deal. The controversy would gain national attention and Adidas would end up killing their sponsorship deal with UCF.

Despite the relatively minor scandal, Marcus Jordan had a solid freshman year. He scored 8 PPG during his freshman season before taking a major step forward in his second year. During the opening night of the 2010 – 11 season, Jordan would lead UCF to a major win over UWF as he racked up a career-high 28 points. Despite his clear skills, Jordan showed signs of struggle against the larger field of competition. Jordan would decide to step away from the basketball team in his junior year as he focused solely on his studies.

Even though Marcus was officially putting his NBA aspirations to bed, he wasn't done being inspired by the sport. Jordan says of his father's trophy room, "Every year for Christmas we would gather in the trophy room. My father would incorporate our awards with his to teach us to earn our own accolades." Jordan was also inspired by his father's work in the shoe industry. In 2014 alone, Michael Jordan earned over $100 million in shoe sales. Marcus Jordan saw this is a profound culture shift, and he would be inspired to embark upon his own entrepreneurial journey. Marcus Jordan would graduate from UCF with a Hospitality Management degree.

In 2016, Marcus Jordan would take the leap in order to establish his own business. The Trophy Room shoe store opened its doors on May 23, 2016.
