Falling Down, Basic Instinct, and Romancing the Stone

$300 Million
As the child of two famous actors, there can be a lot of pressure to be a star in your own right. Michael Douglas is the son of actress Diana Dill and longtime actor Kirk Douglas, and Michael got his start on the television special “The Experiment”. After making many appearances throughout the 1970’s, Douglas became a star in the early 1980’s.
Douglas had achieved more success as a producer at that point, but had the breakthrough with “Romancing the Stone”. The rest of the decade saw Douglas star in films such as “Fatal Attraction”, “Wall Street” and “The War of the Roses”. His success would carry into the 1990’s thanks to hits like “Basic Instinct”. In his career, Douglas has won two Academy Awards, one as a producer for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and for acting in “Wall Street”.
Despite being 72 years old, we have to say that Douglas is looking pretty good, and much younger than his age would suggest. After all, he does have a wife (actress Catherine Zeta-Jones) that is 25 years his junior. Douglas appeared even younger in the flashback scene of “Ant-Man” that made him look another 30 or so years younger, thanks to magic of CGI. Unfortunately, we don’t get to use CGI to make ourselves look younger on a daily basis, so some of us turn to plastic surgery.
While most celebrities wouldn’t dare admit to having any plastic surgery, Douglas opened up about his history more than a decade ago. It was while he was promoting a film that Douglas said he had drove more than an hour and a half away from his house to have a procedure that he called a face augmentation. What happened was, Douglas received a facelift in addition to Botox injections and other procedures to smooth out his wrinkles.
Douglas also underwent a necklift procedure, showing off the bandages that he acquired from the surgery. It was quite the transformation that Douglas shared with everyone, and his jawline looked much smoother and pronounced while the wrinkles had vanished from his face. In the years that followed, it appeared that Douglas was not undergoing any other major procedures, instead opting for the touch up Botox injections.
Rumors started back up again when Douglas accepted the role of Liberace in the 2013 television film “Behind the Candelabra”. Liberace was a known fan of plastic surgery, and Douglas had certainly appeared comfortable with going under the knife before. Though Douglas didn’t say for sure if he got into character by going through with another alteration, it did appear that his face had changed slightly for the role.
Most of the reviews for Douglas’s plastic surgery have been positive, as he does appear to be much younger than 72 years old. Of course, there are always going to be critics when it comes to plastic surgery, with some articles saying that Douglas has had one of “the worst male celebrity plastic surgeries” out there. The only critic that Douglas is willing to listen to his his wife.
Zeta-Jones has said in the past year that “I’m not anti-plastic surgery at all,” which is good considering Douglas’s history. She did add, though, that she’s the only one in the family that has had surgery, saying that “Contrary to public opinion, I have not been under the knife...If I feel like it, I’m going to go ahead and do it. If it makes you feel better, who am I to tell someone that it’s wrong.”
So not only does Douglas have an estimated net worth of $300 million and a vote of confidence from his beautiful wife, but his career is still going strong. Douglas is signed on to appear in three movies in the next year, and has starred in recent films that include “Ant-Man”, “Last Vegas” and “Beyond the Reach”. It’s been a pretty good life for Douglas, and he still has a long way to go it seems.
