"The producers probably won't like this, but I always describe her as Peppermint Patty on acid." Mindy Cohn is the famous face of Natalie Green from the original run of The Facts of Life. Cohn's unlikely ascent in the entertainment industry came about as a result of good luck and undeniable talent. While Cohn would become famous for her work on television, being labeled as VH1's #43 Greatest Kid Star, her later work has consisted primarily of voice over jobs.

Mindy Cohn was discovered at her high school by Charlotte Rae, the star of Facts of Life. Rae would immediately fall in love with Cohn's talent, and she would be an integral part of Cohn's eventual addition to the cast. According to Cohn, "It seemed that Charlotte Rae had fallen madly in love with me, in part because I reminded her of her best childhood friend Natalie." 

The Accidental TV Star

Mindy Cohn was born on May 20, 1966, in Los Angeles, CA. She was raised Jewish though she has not made her religion a part of her public identity. As a child, she attended Westlake School which is located in Bel Air, CA. As a student of the school, Cohn was in the building when producers from The Facts of Life showed up to scout potential additions to the show. Charlotte Rae would be the first person to lay eyes on Mindy and that would be all that the young future star would need. Charlotte Rae would begin lobbying on behalf of Mindy almost immediately. As the star of the show, Charlotte had substantial sway. Mindy would end up scoring the role of Natalie Green.

Outside of her work on television, Mindy Cohn would attend Loyola Marymount University. Cohn would graduate from college with a cultural anthropology degree.  Now, decades after her first appearance on television, Cohn works as a lobbyist for LGBT rights in between gigs as a famous voice actress, singer, and occasional film star. Cohn has also been open about her struggles with cancer. Cohn was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. Cohn went through chemotherapy and radiation treatment and eventually, the cancer would go away. Cohn says of this period of her life, "I am so ready to get back to work. I think I am a good actress and I have a lot to offer!"

From TV to the Voice Booth

Mindy Cohn lived in Los Angeles, but she was really raised on the set of The Facts of Life. Cohn would make her debut on the program in 1979, and she would star until the show ended in 1988. After The Facts of Life came to an end, Cohn would find herself right back to work. Cohn would star in the short-lived series, The Second Half from 1993 to 1994. By this point in time, Cohn was growing up but her star in Hollywood was starting to fade, ever so slightly.

Before Cohn got into voice-over work, she would appear in several film roles including The Boy Who Could Fly (1986) and The Help (2010). Cohn also appeared in the reality show, What Not to Wear in October 2010. Most notably, Cohn's latest supporting role was on The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2012).

Cohn would strike gold again when she landed the role of Velma in the animated film, A Scooby-Doo! Christmas (2002). This would begin a prolific stint of voiceover work for the former child star. Cohn would appear as Velma in every Scooby-Doo! project from 2002 to 2015 before stepping away from the character. During that period of time, Cohn worked extensively as a voice-over artist. She would appear in famous cartoons like Dexter's Laboratory (2003), Family Guy (2006) and Kim Possible (2003)

Outside of her work as a V/O artist, Cohn continued to develop a career in the film industry. Cohn has appeared in over 83 projects during her career. Most recently, Cohn would appear in the film Hollywood Dirt (2017) alongside Emma Rigby and Johann Urb. Cohn has several feature film credits currently in development with releases spanning from 2019's Kill Cat Oakland to 2020s Consequences. Cohn will be playing the lead role in Consequences next to Vanessa Cozard and Jace Greenwood. The film will explore the darker edges of gender culture and the ramifications that can manifest as a result of misconduct and assault. The film is set to be infinitely darker than the majority of Cohn's prior roles.

Cohn has been lauded by critics and fans alike for her portrayal of Natalie on Facts of Life. Cohn has been considered one of the top child stars of all time due to her performance. When Cohn isn't working on television or in the booth, she is raising support for the LGBT community. Cohn is also the founding member of the cancer support center known as weSpark. Cohn is not married and she has no children.
