"For all the concern about bodies and weight, 'Baywatch' has three huge catering trucks on set at all times. One for entrees, one for appetizers, and one for junk food." Nicole Eggert starred in the hit television series Baywatch as Summer Quinn. An instant star, Eggert enjoyed time as one of Hollywood's hottest performers.
After getting her start in the acting world at the age of eight, Eggert would go on to build a career that spanned decades. Since getting her start in 1979, Eggert has appeared in 69 projects, a slew of reality shows, and even a Comedy Central Roast (of David Hasselhoff!) Eggert most recently departed from the Hollywood scene in order to focus on her burgeoning entrepreneurial career as an ice-cream truck owner and operator.
Born in Glendale
Nicole Elizabeth Eggert was born on January 13, 1972, in Glendale, CA. Eggert's parents were Rolf Eggert and Gina Duncan. From an early age, it was clear that Eggert had her eyes on a life far greater than she could have anticipated. By the age of five, Eggert was already on her quest for Hollywood fame with notable appearances in several commercials.
As a kid, Eggert was pushed by her mother to perform in beauty pageants. It was through an appearance at the Miss Universe competition that she would be scouted by an entertainment industry executive. The agent would help Eggert and her family get their foot in the door by helping them land a commercial for Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Despite this relatively inauspicious beginning, Eggert would go on to take the entertainment world by storm.
Becoming a Baywatch Babe
While Eggert would eventually be known for her work on Baywatch, she had to work her way up to that kind of job. At the age of eight, Eggert would land a role in the film, Rich and Famous (1980) with Jacqueline Bisset and Candice Bergen. Eggert would play the young daughter of Bergen's character. The film would receive mixed reviews, largely due to the struggles of the two lead characters. The film would barely make back its budget of $10 million.
After landing a film role as a child, Eggert would transition to work on television. She'd score a role in Dennis the Menace in Mayday for Mother (1980) which was the first animated adaptation in the Dennis trilogy. Only a few short years later, Eggert would get a regular role on T.J. Hooker (1982) as Chrissie Hooker. Thanks to her work on the program, Eggert would get the experience necessary in order to pursue more meaty roles. This work would lead directly into Eggert's fame-creating role on Who's The Boss? (1985). Eggert would play Marci Ferguson, close friends of Samantha Micelli (Alyssa Milano). Eggert would then land the biggest role of her career at the time, Charles in Charge (1989).
Charles in Charge would serve to prop Eggert up for longterm fame. She would appear in 104 episodes as Jamie Powell. During the program's run, Eggert would build her profile larger and larger, eventually landing roles in projects like The Haunting of Morella and Home Fires (1992) By this point in time, Eggert was a surging 20-something-year-old actress with something to prove. When Baywatch came calling in 1992, Eggert was more than ready to pick up the phone.
Eggert would land the role of Summer Quinn in Baywatch, and she would reprise the role for a total of 44 episodes, spanning from 1992 to 1994. As one of the lifeguards on the show, Eggert was a featured supporting-character. Eggert had even been given the green light to appear on a Baywatch spinoff series, though the program would never be picked up. Instead, Eggert came back for Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding in 2003.
After her work on Baywatch came to an end, Eggert would struggle to maintain the level of fame that she had been enjoying. Still, Eggert continued to book. She would get a meaty role in The Demolitionist (1995) before making appearances on hit television shows Married with Children (1996), Boy Meets World (1999), and Gilmore Girls (2001). This last film would lead right back to Eggert reprising the role of Summer in the Baywatch standalone film. Eggert would step away from the film industry in 2014 after appearing on the TV mini-series, Heartbreakers for a single episode.
Outside of acting, Eggert has fostered a successful career as a borderline reality star. Eggert appeared on The Real Gilligan's Island in 2004 as well as Scott Baio is 45... and Single in 2007. Eggert would roast her former Baywatch co-star, David Hasselhoff, in the 2010 Comedy Central Roast episode featuring the iconic actor. Eggert would follow up that appearance with a starring role on the hit VH1 show, Celebrity Fit Club. In 2013, Eggert would take second place on the ABC reality show, Splash.
In her personal life, Eggert had been engaged to Corey Haim, whom she had co-starred alongside in several productions during the early 90s. Eggert had famously saved Haim's life when the late actor had succumbed to drugs. Haim would tragically pass away before their marriage. Eggert would go on to marry Justin Herwick in 2002 Herwick and Eggert were married for only two years before deciding to call it quits. Eggert has two children, and she has since retired from Hollywood in order to work on her ice-cream truck business.
