“I have no regrets because I've done everything I could to the best of my ability.” Having a successful acting career that lasts for over five decades in Hollywood is a pretty big accomplishment for any actor. Heck, most actors are lucky if they enjoy mainstream success for just five years, let alone five decades. But, legendary actor, director and producer Robert Redford has proven year after year that he is one of Hollywood’s rarest gems after getting his start in 1960 with appearances on shows like The Untouchables, Perry Mason and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Making his film debut in War Hunt in 1962, Redford earned his first Golden Globe just three years later for Inside Daisy Clover but truly became a household name in 1969 when he starred in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Following up with career blockbusters like The Sting and All the President’s Men, Redford proved his exceptional talent both in front of and behind the camera with award-winning hits like Ordinary People, Out of Africa and A River Runs Through It. Along the way, he founded the Sundance Film Festival and earned praise as the “Godfather of Indie Film” with numerous awards and honors to his name including a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.

With several projects in the works, the 80-year-old Redford has been a hot topic in the media but not for his talent on the silver screen. Instead, his appearance has taken center stage as reporters have noticed that Redford’s face seems to be nearly paralyzed, which could be the result of too many Botox injections and plastic surgery procedures. In 2015, experts took note of Redford’s facial expressions arguing that he must have had nearly $30,000 worth of surgery in recent years in addition to spending a few thousand dollars each year for smaller nips, tucks and tightening to remove any wrinkles, which is a rarity for anyone who is 80 years old.

Starting with his ears, surgeons say that Redford appears to have had his earlobes modified with filler injections to prevent sagging, which requires retouching at least once a year. His skin is also exceptionally bright for someone his age and is completely devoid of wrinkles and age spots, which means that he’s either defied the aging process entirely or that he’s had his skin retextured. Although many argue that this is the result of a facelift, other surgeons suggest that The Horse Whisperer star has opted for laser procedures and a complete skin peel to freshen his look.

Beyond the possible blepharoplasty and brow lift to remove any sagging skin and wrinkles around his eyes, it’s hard to miss Redford’s million-dollar smile that is just as bright—if not brighter—than when he made his film debut in 1960. Doctors say that he’s likely had veneers at the very least since a set of straight, pearly white teeth is a necessity for any actor in Hollywood. As for his chin, surgeons suggest that there’s plenty of evidence of a neck lift especially since Redford is no stranger to sporting facial hair, which can easily cover any scarring from standard cosmetic surgery. But, has any of Redford’s time under the knife ever been confirmed?

If you dream of getting a plastic surgery confession from one of Hollywood’s legends, keep on dreaming. The California native is incredibly private and refuses to talk about his personal life much less share anything on social media. Truly “old school” when it comes to his perspective on modern media and oversharing, Redford says that the internet is an avenue of “going public with yourself that doesn’t appeal to me. I think I owe the public a story to be told. I don’t necessarily owe them my life.” It makes perfect sense coming from a man who has yet to watch any of his own films.

Refusing to let any rumor stand in the way of his success at any time during his impressive career, the 80-year-old Redford has been busier than ever with projects like A Walk in the Woods and Pete’s Dragon in addition to two upcoming films, The Discovery and Our Souls at Night. However, after five decades in the spotlight and a lifetime of accomplishments, Redford has hinted that things might soon change but only on his terms and only when he’s ready.

“At this point in my life, age 80, it’d give me more satisfaction to retire because I’m not dependent on anybody,” he said. “It’s just me, just the way it used to be… I’m thinking of moving in that direction and not acting so much.” And, while we can’t imagine Hollywood without Redford, it’s hard to deny that the iconic actor and director will leave the world with a priceless gift thanks to decades of films that ensure his legend will continue long after he’s folded up his director’s chair.
