Brinkley first rose to fame when she appeared in a Sports Illustrated photo shoot alongside her sister and mother in 2017. Sailor Brinkley Cook was born on July 2nd, 1998 to Christie Brinkley and Peter Halsey Cook in Bridgehampton, New York. Sailor's mother, Christie,  is a world-renowned model with over 500 magazine covers to her name. Christie is also one of the most accomplished Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models of all time, with three straight cover appearances to her name. Sailor's father, Peter Halsey Cook, is a famous architect and businessman.

Sailor was raised in the Hamptons where she lived in the West Village. During her time in New York City, Sailor would begin pursuing her career in the entertainment field. Sailor would attend Parsons School of Design while pursuing a degree in photography. Sailor would end up receiving her Bachelor's Degree from the school after graduating in 2017. Sailor has two older siblings, from her mother's previous relationships, including Alexa Ray Joel and Jack Paris Brinkley.

While Sailor is living her life in the public eye, she is notably private about her personal details. On the topic of her parent's public divorce, back in 2008, Sailor said, "You have to have a positive attitude." Sailor would go on to explain that she understood why her parents split up, though she was understandably upset with the details that were leaked.  Sailor has been outspoken about the benefits of counseling and therapy, which she pursued after school in the wake of her parent's divorce.
