"I'm not interested in becoming a bigger star, I'm not interested in being the wealthiest guy in the world. I'm doing fine. I love acting, and I want to do it for the rest of my life." Seth Green is one of the most famous comedians in the world. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your perspective, he has taken a behind-the-camera role that has kept his face away from the spotlight. With that being said, Green's impact on the world of comedy is almost impossible to deny.
Green had a successful run during the mid-90s as a character actor in films like Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Without a Paddle, The Italian Job, and Can't Hardly Wait. Behind the scenes, Green became a workhorse voice over artist as well as a successful producer. Green's most successful work is largely tied to the animated world where he directs Robot Chicken on Adult Swim while also playing the role of Chris Griffin on the hit animated series, Family Guy. While Green is far from an A-lister, he has had a career that any performer would have loved to have.
Raised in Philadelphia
Seth Benjamin Gesshel-Green was born on February 8, 1974, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Specifically, Green was born in Overbrook Park to Herbert and Barbara Green. Green has one sister, Kaela. Green would famously legally change his name to Seth Benjamin Green in order to blur the line between his professional life and his private life. Green has Russian, Polish, and Scottish descent.
Green was raised in a Jewish household, and he celebrated his Bar Mitzvah Ceremony. Despite his relatively conservative household, Green was quick to enter into the entertainment industry. Green first started acting at the age of seven. Some of his earliest influences include Porky's, Caddyshack, Richard Pryor, and Monty Python. As a child, Green appeared in a number of television advertisements including product placement for Jell-O Gelatin Pop. Green also received considerable coverage for his work on the Cha-Ching commercial for Rally's. Green would end up getting a key to New Orleans in honor of his work on the popular commercial series.
Sprawling Hollywood Career
Seth Green has been in just about everything throughout his career. With that being said, he first entered into the industry at the age of ten. He would appear in Billions for Boris as well as The Hotel New Hampshire in 1984. In those projects, Green would work alongside Rob Lowe and Jodie Foster. Green continued to cultivate a name for himself as a prolific child actor leading into his career as a young adult. Other notable early roles include The Facts of Life (1988), My Stepmother Is an Alien (1988), and the TV mini-series, IT (1990).
While Green has never stopped working, his fame is largely tied to a number of specific projects. In the film world, Green garnered attention for his work as Dr. Evil's son, Scott Evil, in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997). Green would also have considerable success as a character actor in films like Rat Race (2001), Knockaround Guys (2001), The Italian Job (2003), and That '70s Show (2003).
The bulk of Green's success in Hollywood would come back to the animated series, Family Guy, created by Seth MacFarlane. Now considered one of the most successful animated sitcoms of all time, Green would earn a place for the then-experimental project back in 1999 as the son of the family, Chris Griffin. Green has since appeared in 329 episodes spanning a full decade. Throughout that period of time, Green also became a prolific voice actor, writer, and director for the raunchy Adult Swim animated show, Robot Chicken (2005). Green's involvement in the series came to an end in 2018. During his time with Robot Chicken, the series would win three Primetime Emmy Awards.
Green has had success both in front of and behind the camera. With that said, only recently, Green has begun to climb up the ranks of Hollywood with several major production credits. Green appeared in the hit DC film Shazam! (2019) in a cameo role before also landing a role in Godzilla II: King of the Monsters (2019). Green was also cast as Howard the Duck in the animated Marvel series, Guardians of the Galaxy. Green is also slated to appear in the new animated Star Wars: Detours which is set to release at some point in 2020. Most recently, Green has been focused on his work as Leonardo in the hit animated series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
With regard to his private life, Green has been married to Clare Grant since 2010. The couple got married in Northern California, and they now live in Los Angeles. Clare and Green worked together on several projects including Robot Chicken, Holidays, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Green would also write and release his first movie, titled Changeland, in 2019. The film starred Brenda Song as well as Macaulay Culkin.
