Being born in the public spotlight is never easy and it is particularly difficult when your family name is synonymous with tragedy. Sydney Brooke Simpson is the daughter of O.J. and Nicole Brown Simpson. On June 12, 1994, Sydney would lose her mother to tragedy and her father would go on to be implicated in the event. At the time, O.J. Simpson was a famous athlete and high-profile celebrity. While Sydney was only nine, she was still thrust into the spotlight.
Despite the struggles that plagued her childhood, Sydney has done everything that she possibly could in order to away from the wandering eyes of the public. Sydney Simpson does not do interviews, nor does she have public-facing social media accounts. In fact, if she changed her name, you'd never be able to find where she was. With that being said, there is still a bit to learn about the enigmatic daughter of one of the most controversial men in entertainment history.
Trial By Fire
Sydney Brooke Simpson was born on October 17, 1985, to father O.J. Simpson and mother Nicole Brown Simpson. At the time, O.J. Simpson was celebrated as one of the best running backs to ever step foot on a professional football field. O.J. was also performing as a broadcaster for the N.F.L. Nicole had been working as a waitress when she had met O.J. Not much is known about Sydney's childhood outside of the fact that she has a brother named Justin Ryan Simpson who she is older than by three years.
As a child, Sydney's life would face tragic upheaval when she lost her mother. Nicole Brown Simpson would pass away on June 12, 1994. Her father would be implicated in the crime, though he was not convicted. Sydney was awarded a $12.6 million settlement from her mother's estate while her brother, Justin, received the same amount. After the trial concluded, Sydney would go through a public custody battle between her father and her late mother's family.
Following the conclusion of the custody battle, both parties would be granted joint custody of Sydney. Despite reports that Sydney was estranged from her father, there is no confirmation that this was the case. Since the conclusion of the trial, Sydney has completely avoided social media, interviews, or any other form of fame.
Real Estate Empire
While Sydney Simpson has chosen to live her life outside of the public eye, she still has managed to accomplish quite a bit. Sydney would graduate from Boston University in 2010 with a degree in sociology. After earning her degree, she would briefly move to Atlanta.
After living in Atlanta, Simpson would make her way to Florida. Once in Florida, Sydney would establish her own real estate company. Simpsy LLC would start doing business in 2014 as an investment vessel for the low-profile professional. Sydney is now a relatively successful real estate investor, though the extent of her company's outreach is still in question. Sydney lives near her brother, Justin, who also runs a real estate investment business.
Now happily settled down in Florida, Simpson's name began to crop back up in the papers. Her boyfriend, Robert Blackmon, was a local politician that was running for a council seat in the city of St. Petersburg. Blackmon operated several public social media accounts, but he has only ever briefly mentioned his life with Sydney, likely due to her request. Blackmon says of Sydney, "She's been selflessly supporting me and not worried about herself." Blackmon focused his campaign on green energy and environmentalism.
Despite her family's infamy, very little has made its way to the press from either side of the familial divide. Nicole Simpson's sister, Tanya Brown, spoke briefly with People magazine back in 2006. The topic of Justin and Sydney Simpson came up and Brown had nothing but kind words to say about both of them. Brown said of Sydney, "They are so grounded. I am so proud of what and who they become." Tanya Brown refused to condemn Sydney for her continued support of O.J. Simpson.
Sydney's brother, Justin Simpson, also found himself in the real estate industry. Justin would establish his own real estate investment company after working with Coldwell Banker Homes. Justin is also based out of St. Petersburg and the two siblings are still close to this day. Justin has found similar success investing in property.
After enduring a sad and tragic childhood, Sydney Simpson appears to be enjoying her life away from the prying eyes of the public. Her father continues to dominate the headlines, much to the family's chagrin. With that being said, Sydney's ability to stake out a life in the wake of her family's struggles is something to be commended.
